i, Citizen c. 1/20

Jane Holsted leaves her Los Angeles apartment for a visit to her mother’s home in Mammoth Lakes. Trying to be a good citizen, she swerves the car to avoid colliding into a deer in the middle of the road. Losing control of the car, which proceeds to drive off the road crashing into a lake, she hits her head on the roof of the car rendering herself unconscious. No one sees the incident. With the car half underwater in the lake, head above water, Jane has a series of nightmares of being in a shaky elevator, waiting at the airport, a purse grabbing prowler that breaks into a house, and watching a horror film at the theater. The car is slowly filling with water and sinking. Her mind also unlocks memories of the events before the accident. When she dreams that she is sleeping in the bedroom of her apartment, she remembers the accident. Waking up in the car, she rolls down the window and escapes, swimming to the surface. With blood on her face from the wound on her head, she walks around the vicinity seeking assistance.
